In This Family We Have Found

Surrounded by the Sound is the East Coast’s Premiere Grassroots Festival, showcasing the best up and coming talent on this side of the USA with a focus on the Reggae/Rock Scene. At SBTS we pride ourselves on offering attendees a sense of community and belonging to “the family we have found.” Every Labor Day weekend, we offer a peaceful getaway to the upstate of South Carolina where music lovers can escape the hustle and bustle of their daily lives and reconnect with themselves and other like minded individuals. SBTS is inspired by and named after the song “Young One,” a collaboration between Sun-Dried Vibes (SBTS Founders) and TreeHouse! The song lyrics advise listeners to “take heed of their bare necessities, friends and family” and that we are all one core group that is “surrounded by the sound.” If you’re looking for the perfect festival to help you connect with the music you love and the community of people that make it happen, then SBTS is for you. We hope you will join us for an unforgettable and life changing experience this Labor Day Weekend.

Album Review:
There are few bands this decade that have been as prolific and consistent as Fortunate Youth. Since their 2012 debut album Irie State of Mind, Fortunate Youth has continuously progressed their sound while maintaining the roots the band formed around. In a few short years, FY has gone from an eye catching opening act to a heavily demanded headliner. With the release of their self-titled 5th studio album, the Hermosa Beach 6-piece further solidifies their position among reggae’s upper echelon. Continue Reading

From the start of this album, the band is exactly as advertised. “Let It Out” opens with some high energy guitar riffs before segueing into a quick paced Jesse Lee rap verse and mellow harmony from J.P. People like myself who are just being introduced to Oogee Wawa will get a sense of the band’s style from this song, so it’s a great choice for the opening track. Continue Reading
